Strikes a Chord With GamersJul 10, 2010 Halo fans will like the series. This is a good installment in a series that doesn't necessarily have to be read in order. I especially liked the flashback part where the spartan kids were training. I sort of wish there was a whole book on John and his friends and their training on Reach.
Book reads much like the games. Enemies swarm, good guys blaze away at them, some die, some don't, Master Chief triumphs again.
The best...Jun 16, 2010 Taking place after the 1st Halo game (after the 2nd book) this is easily the best book in the series so far it has everything you could want and more.
Halo - First StrikeMay 03, 2010 The Halo universe, games and novels, tells one of the top 5 greatest sci-fi stories of all time, in quality and quantity. This is a must have for TRUE Halo fans, and simply a really good sci-fi novel for those that aren't. This novel and all of the others in the Halo universe are fantasically written and are very easy reads. Each novel tells a truly awesome story and blends the action, drama, and even comedy very well. Kudos to this author and the others that have contributed to this amazing tale. I hope the Halo franchise and universe continue to evolve for a long long time.
Great BookFeb 28, 2010 If you love the games, and like to read you have to read this book along with the rest of the serious as I did, as I was reading I could picture every character and place in my head and when I was done I had to play the games again LOL
Really Good Miltary SciFi - Highly RecommendedFeb 24, 2010 "First Strike" is the third installment in the Halo series, following The Fall of Reach (Halo, Bk. 1) and The Flood (Halo #2), and is by far the best of the three. I would have enjoyed this one even if we didn't play the Halo games on our Xbox.
No plot spoilers from me; this book jumps around a bit at the beginning, weaving the story around the events in the first two books and then picking up from the ending of "The Flood". The main focus of the story is once again the Spartan John (AKA, "Master Chief" - a heavily armored super soldier) and the computer AI Cortana that spends a good bit of time living in his head. The battle against the alien Covenant forces continues against overwhelming odds. This time elements of both the human and Covenant hierarchy are explored in greater detail and I also enjoyed the insights into the other Spartans that are covered in greater detail than in the other books. The book ending makes it clear that there are more coming in the series.
All three of the books can be bought together in the boxed set, Halo, Books 1-3 (The Flood; First Strike; The Fall of Reach).
I enjoy military SciFi and those that like this will enjoy Old Man's War and The Forever War.
Highly Recommended!
