5You've played the game, enjoy the music!Sep 30, 2010
By Stephen M. Lerch
As has been the case with every Halo game to this point, Martin O'Donell and Michael Salvatori have created a gripping and atmospheric soundtrack to assist in telling the Halo tale.

For some of us, the music of Halo is a bit of an unsung hero (pun intended). The music plays in the background, sometimes without you even realizing there IS music playing, but as you finish a level you start pulling all of the pieces together in your head and realize that while you may not have consciously heard the music, subconsciously the music has stirred emotion in you and pushed you to fight or exerted influence on your heart strings when the horrors of war take what is important from the character you play and the Halo world as a whole. Masterful music at its best.

I won't say every piece is a master work, but many of the pieces are stirring, jarring and fit perfectly in the scenes in which they play. In game there seems to bit a bit of dynamics at play on how the actual piece plays and finishes; as the game is pushing the soundtrack out to your ears on the fly; the CD will never capture this dynamic nature. Instead you are given the entire piece, something you may not ever hear during a play through of the game.

If you're wondering "should I buy this?," ask yourself this: do you enjoy the in game music? Do you enjoy the in game music enough to enjoy it outside of the game? In the car? As you do house chores? Ride the bus? If you answered yes to any of these, pick this up now and you won't regret it. If you answered no, then that's your answer. If you hate the music in the game, you'll hate the music outside the game. Simple. If you're undecided or apathetic to the music you hear in game, again, hearing it in CD form won't change your opinion either way.

If you have not yet played Halo: Reach and are wondering if this CD set is worth purchasing, did you enjoy the music from the other games in the main series? If so, you'll enjoy this music just as well. It is by the same musicians as the others after all.

The CD is well mastered and free from anything that crushes the dynamic range. Being "classical" (as best as it can be classified) in nature, the lows are low and the highs are high. I am extremely pleased with the presentation of the music on the CDs.

There are 20 tracks total and comprise the entire musical suite from Halo: Reach.

Missing from this set are songs that can be best described as "songs inspired by Halo" that appeared on the Halo 2 soundtrack. I am thankful for this as I don't feel these songs added anything other than filler to that set, BUT my opinion aside, if you are looking for music inspired by Halo: Reach on these discs, you will be disappointed.

Highly recommended to Halo fans and recommended for fans of decent classical style music.

5A Monument of Instrumental GeniusOct 07, 2010
By Jerminator
I enjoyed the games, but the music in all the Halo series has been phenomenal! It is increasingly difficult to create new, exciting, and moving musical themes in a well known series. Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori raise the bar in excellence not only for video game soundtracks, but for instrumental soundtracks in general. This soundtrack is right up there with Star Wars, Gladiator, The Lord of the Rings, and other big name compositions. My favorite Halo soundtrack before Halo Reach was Halo 3: ODST. If you like the music of the Halo series at all give this a try and you will not be disappointed. A great bonus for this soundtrack is that you can listen to it anywhere. Plus, the soundtrack is close to 2 hours in length. You are definitely getting a bargain here. People overhearing the music are usually surprised that this is a video game soundtrack. The music is more somber and dark given the tragic storyline, but there are occasional rays of instrumental hope.

5Saving the best for lastNov 12, 2010
By savagewolf12
Halo:Reach is the last of five Halo games from Bungie Studios. I have purchased (to my knowledge) all of the Halo CDs to date, and have enjoyed them. The two most recent offerings: Halo 3:ODST, and Halo:Reach, have sounds that separate them from the other three. I realize that if you're reading this, you want to know about Reach, but please bear with me. ODST offered up wonderful, nostalgic, noirish sounds, mixed with just a hint of John Williams Star Wars score. This is not to imply that Marty O' Donnel and Michael Salvatori can't write their own music. I meant it as a compliment.
Reach, however, gives us something completely different. I have found little, if any, similarities between this and all the others. The exotic sound of Overture and primal sound of Winter Contingency really set the tone for the epic scale of the game, and hence, the entire soundtrack. Marty O'Donnel and C. Paul Johnson have truly saved the best music for the last game. If you've hesitated in buying this for fear that it will sound just like the rest, hesitate no longer. This should be picked just as fast the game was on release day.

4Within My Reach !Mar 29, 2011

Excellent sound track. Highly recommended even if you are new to the Halo XBox game franchise. I am really enjoying listening to this while driving to and from work (takes my mind off the traffic!). I was also pleasantly surprised to discover that it is a two disc album. Great value indeed!

5Arguably the best of the Halo soundtracks from the best in the Halo franchiseJan 09, 2011
By PRJ since1990
Simply put, the music, as it should be, is nothing less than beautiful. Still gives me goosebumps when I hear certain scores. The nice part is that any Halo fan can definitely recognize the references to the previous Halo soundtracks as Reach has several bonus tracks that put a different twist on old themes. So, to summarize the Halo Reach ST, if you enjoyed the game and you loved the music (or you're a fan of orchestral music with a blend of newer styles) this is a fantastic buy. Definitely a must for Halo fans. Bungie certainly came through with another great Halo title that finished the story and the soundtrack does nothing less than reflect that notion.
